Fall Service and Winterizing

In the spring we are flooded with calls of dead batteries and clogged fuel systems. While we love your visit, it is not so great for the client as neglect is not covered under warranty.

It also has a negative affect on the environment as we have to properly dispose of the batteries and old gas.

Almost all of these issues can be addressed with the use of a battery tender and some "ethanol compliant" fuel stabilizer and engine oil stabilizer. Another great investment is a cover. Most of us end up storing in a tight space where things and people (even people with things!?) can brush up against the prized finish of your scooter and scratch or mar the paint. Covers help protect your baby and are much cheaper than a trip to the paint shop.

Battery Care
Battery tenders are intelligent chargers, these ain't your fathers trickle charger. A charger or trickle charger can over charge and damage the battery. Tenders being intelligent will turn on and off as required to maintain your battery over an extended storage period. They come with quick disconnects which allow you to maintain your battery as easily as charging your cell phone or you can remove the battery and use the clamps which are also included. We carry indoor units at $54.95, waterproof units for outdoors at $64.95 and our more advanced "Optimate 3" and "Optimate 4" that can revive dead batteries from $69.95.

IMPORTANT NOTE: NEVER charge your battery with a unit over 2Amps and NEVER EVER boost you battery from a car.

Fuel/Oil Stabilizers
Add 1 oz Vespa Burlington's "ethanol compliant" fuel stabilizer to the gas tank and 1 oz Vespa Burlington's oil stabilzer to the oil resevoir (via the dip stick), start the motor and l'et it run for about 5 minutes to allow the treatment to enter the fuel lines, carburetor or fuel injector. Turn off and store. These stabilizers are blended by "Shellbourne Fuels", suppliers to Porsche and Ferrari. Available only at Vespa Burlington.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Fuel injected bikes should be filled completely to protect the fuel pump from corrosion/condensation. Oil Stabilizer should be added to clean oil (less than 500k use). If your oil is dirty then it should be changed. Oil Stabilizer does not have to be removed in the Spring. Just start and ride.

Protection
Clean your bike prior to storage. Dead bugs and bird droppings can damage the finish on your paint job and upset your Vespa! Parking in a heated enclosed area is preferred and use a dust cover for your scooter. If outside storage is unavoidable at least use a winter storage cover. Covers start at $69.95 If you want to go the extra Mile then use "IPONE" corrosion inhibitor spray to preserve your finish.

Important Note: Inflate your tires and periodically rotate the front 90 to 270 degrees. Do the same on the rear wheel unless it is on the centerstand with the rear tire off the ground.

If this is all too much for you just leave your scooter with us and take advantage of our winterizing services.
